Customized Instruction in Accent Modification

A private class in Accent Modification is customized to your needs and schedule. InterLect's 5 step process involves:

  1. Needs Assessment
  2. Diagnosis
  3. Program Design
  4. Training
  5. Application

Needs Assessment
This process begins with an interview. We determine your needs, goals and ability to meet those goals. For instance, do you need to improve your presentation skills, participation in meetings, customer relations or communication skills in general? Your needs will help us focus on areas for training.

Diagnosis
Following the Needs Assessment, we administer speaking and listening assessments that help pinpoint your learning challenges. At times, this assessment session may need a follow up if more data is needed to complete the assessment profile.

Program Design
After determining your needs and reviewing our assessment profile, we design a program customized for your unique situation. We then recommend a program for you depending on your needs.

Training
A schedule of individual appointments is established. The number of meetings is based on the total hours per week and per course. Length of program varies, but most programs run from 20-40 hours. We evaluate progress throughout the training period, making adjustments in course length when needed.

Application
Applying the tips and skills taught during the Accent Modification training occurs throughout the course, so one need not wait until the end to see some improvement. Gaining more self-confidence and self-awareness will encourage you to practice those skills in meetings, at presentations and in other face-to-face communications.

Results
Many clients will pick up the skills they need after the first round of training as well as a plan of action for continuous improvement. They may need only to schedule periodic checkup meetings to make sure that skills are being practiced and that progress is being made. Others may elect to take an additional round of training to focus on areas that are especially challenging such as problem sounds and word endings.

Results can be measured by the following:

  • positive feedback from employees, co-workers or colleagues
  • greater self-confidence
  • greater self-image
  • increased productivity and effectiveness
